Buffalo Chicken Dip

This Buffalo Chicken Dip is literally the easiest to make and it is the ultimate crowd pleaser! It is creamy, tangy and absolutely delicious. This dip is best served with tortilla chips, carrots and celery.
It is guaranteed to be the biggest hit at your next party and it comes together with just a few simple ingredients. It consists of chicken (canned or rotisserie), buffalo sauce, cream cheese, ranch dressing, spices and cheddar cheese to result in this ooey-gooey goodness!
I have had a lot of hot Buffalo Chicken Dips in my life, many made by friends or family at gatherings. I have also tried to replicate a bunch of recipes that I saw for this classic dip and after many trials and errors, my husband and I have come up with the recipe we like the best. I hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!
The Buffalo Chicken Dip Ingredients
Chicken – Many recipes call for shredded chicken breast, but let’s be real, that is a lot more work than I’m usually willing to put in! I always use two cans of canned chicken. It is inexpensive and super easy! If you do not want to use canned chicken, rotisserie chicken is a great alternative. Both are great ways to cut down on the prep time to get this dip together.
Buffalo Sauce – You can use any buffalo sauce of your choice, but I always use Frank’s RedHot Wings Hot Sauce. It is simply the best!
Cream Cheese – I love cream cheese. It really helps to make this dip nice and creamy. I use an 8 oz block of cream cheese. If you do not have enough, I have substituted sour cream for some of the cream cheese in the past.
Ranch Dressing – I prefer Ranch dressing in my dip and I typically use Hidden Valley Ranch dressing but any brand will work just fine. You can absolutely use Blue Cheese dressing instead of ranch dressing if you want!
Spices – I find that Oregano and Parsley go great in this recipe. Dried spices are good to put in the dip but I like to garnish the top with fresh parsley before serving.
Shredded Cheese – This dip would not be complete without Cheddar cheese because cheese makes everything better in my opinion! I get a bag of shredded cheddar cheese and put some in the dip and reserve some for the top. You can also add crumbled blue cheese if you prefer it tangier!
How to make Buffalo Chicken Dip
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the block of room temperature cream cheese, canned shredded chicken, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, cheddar cheese and spices. Mix well until combined.

- Spray a medium sized baking dish with cooking spray. Add mixture evenly to the dish. Sprinkle the top with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Place in preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until the top begins to bubble and turns golden brown.

- Let sit for about 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve with tortilla chips, crackers or carrots and celery and enjoy!
Many recipes call for the cooked shredded chicken to be mixed with the buffalo sauce first. Then it is followed by melting the cheeses and ranch dressing together on the stove top and layering it on top of the chicken and then finally baking it. However, I find it easiest to mix everything together at once then bake it together. It is just as scrumptious, trust me!
What should I serve with this dip?
I personally love any kind of tortilla chips with this buffalo chicken dip. They compliment each other perfectly! However, I also really enjoy eating it with carrot and celery sticks, which is typically what I always serve it with. You could serve it with different types of crackers as well or different potato chips. It would also be delicious with toasted bread and the list goes on!
