Gyro Seasoning

Gyro Seasoning

This Greek Gyro seasoning is a perfect blend of spices and herbs that will enhance the flavor of your chicken, beef, lamb or pork! It can be used as a dry rub, seasoning or a marinade.

When it comes to seasoning for my food, I prefer to make it myself. If you take a look at some of the store-bought seasoning packets, they contain a lot of preservatives, added sodium, sugar and more unnecessary ingredients. That is why I love these make-ahead seasoning mixtures that I can simply add to a jar and store it away in my pantry until the next time I need it!

To use this as a marinade:

Mix the Gyro seasoning with olive oil and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Place your meat of choice in a large zip lock bag and pour the marinade over it. For the best most flavorful results, allow the meat to marinade in the fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight.

To use this as a dry rub or seasoning:

Cover your meat of choice with the Gyro seasoning, ensuring the meat is completely coated. Add olive oil to a frying pan and cook the meat until the internal temperature is 165 degrees F for poultry or 145 degrees F for beef or pork. For ground meat, simply cook the meat in a frying pan, breaking it up as it cooks. Once the meat is no longer pink, sprinkle the desired amount of seasoning over the meat and mix it well to combine.

This Greek Gyro seasoning is my go-to spice blend for these Greek-inspired Meatball Gyros topped with Tzatziki Sauce. This dish pairs perfectly with a Greek Salad on the side! Yum!

How to store the Gyro seasoning:

This Gyro seasoning recipe makes a fair amount so you will definitely have some left over! Store it in a jar or a container with a lid at room temperature in a dry place for up to 6 months. I personally love that this recipe makes extra because that means the next time I make a meal using this seasoning, I don’t have to worry about it. It is already done for me!
